The Cabins
Choose from one of five historic, rustic, authentic log cabins, tastefully restored with all modern amenities. Each cabin is unique with walnut, cherry, oak and chestnut logs, custom kitchens, bathrooms, often with claw-foot tubs and shower. All have heat and air conditioning and a porch or deck for outdoor living. Each cabin is in its own special setting, close enough to walk, but separated far enough you might think you were an original settler. |

The Wildlife Refuge
The Highlands is a nature preserve. It is being managed to encourage the mix of trees and meadows that will support the widest diversity of plants and animals.
The birds range from bald eagles and wild turkeys to myriad cardinals and hidden singers. Deer, coyotes, racoons, bobcats, and uncountable rabbits and squirrels make their home in the meadows and forest.
The limestone Karst atopography is dimpled with sinkholes and the occasional cave. From the escarpment to the east, it overlooks the South River and the Blue Ridge Mountains. To the west, the "left behind" mountains of the Alleghenies dominate the sky.

The Area
If you wish a touch of civilization, shopping, fine dining, art, museums and culture, nearby Lexington has it all. AREA ATTRACTIONS include two of the shrines of the Confederacy - both Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee are buried here. You may wish to visit their memorials at Lee Chapel on the campus of Washington and Lee University or in the historic cemetery shared by over 75 Confederate soldiers.
